AIX and HP-UX has their own advantages and disadvantages. Java and Oracle are supported on most platforms, including AIX and HP-UX. As long as Sun MicroSystem (who invented the Java) and Oracle (who owns Oracle Database) say that their products are fully supported on these platform, there is really no difference.

When comes to the decision to use which platform, it is not only determined by which application/products they support, but also decided by the cost/technical support/industry. e.g. In the US market, most pharmaceutical companies use HP-UX, since that is the tradition; on Wall Street\'s financial companies, most of them still use IBM\'s mainframe and some Sun Solaris, etc. At the end of the day, your boss will make the final decision and you will end up with whatever you have.
