The Web Hosting Engineer focuses on continuous operation, project and change management of the Web Hosting Systems, many of them within a high availability environment. The main goal is to minimize the amount of unplanned downtime in the customer's production environment and to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
Moreover he has the responsibility for complex Web Hosting Environments and is responsible for all change management. He also is responsible for the optimization, of the support process and proactive support.
The Web Hosting Engineer is responsible to work on complex Web Hosting issues, identify and solve 3rd level problems, keep contact to the customer, coordinator of data center, technician and network incident and implementation activities.
According to our service level agreements we commit to our customers short response times and to fix problems within a given timeframe.
To fulfil these tasks, regular standby and weekend work is expected. This person will need to be able to formulate and complete complex change management requests, with service quality always in mind.
• Excellent knowledge in HP-UX, LINUX, TRU 64 and other Unix derivates
• Excellent knowledge about file system layout, LVM, JFS, online JFS and VERITAS volume management
• At least 4 years hand-on experience in UNIX administration
• At least 2 years experience in the listed job requirements for high availability environments
• At least 3 years hands on experience with 3 or more of the following Web Hosting Technologies, APACHE, TOMCAT, BEA Weblogic, IBM Websphere, and Oracle Application Server.
• Experience of managing live Webhosting Environments, Web Log File Management, Web Reporting, Replication Management, Java Application Configuration & Management.
• Experience in Web Hosting Environment networking configuration administration (Redundant NIC’s, Host Header Redirect, Virtual Hosts etc)
• Experience in Capacity planning (f. e. Network Traffic, Storage, Processor)
• Experience in different backup concepts
• Experience in Performance Management
• Good understanding of high availability environments, at least trained in HP MC/ Service Guard
• Good understanding in Business Recovery solutions
• Very good Analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills. Ability to analyze problems with experts from other domains (Application, database, network, hardware). Good judgement about criticality / priority of all tasks.
• Servicing of the customer and technical documentation
• Handling of Licences Management
• Security Management
• Good understanding of the concept of ITIL (Change management etc)
• Experience in project planning and hardware order reviews for environment evaluation, extension, consolidation
• Good Project management skills. Ability to coordinate tasks with several people, teams, departments;
Commitment to timelines and effort.
• Ability to negotiate with external customers, internal suppliers / departments.
• Ability to represent HP Managed Services in front of the customer and other HP internal departments
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems or equivalent experience
• UNIX Certified Engineer or Equivalent
• Service oriented behaviour and communication to internal and external contacts
• Work independently on high level goals
• Commitment to total customer experience
• Language: fluent in English and German
