How do I fix the E6300 Windows NT SCSI Port Error?

If you are using Windows 2000 Server and Arcserve 2000 and you are experiencing the infamous 'E6300 Windows NT SCSI Port Error' here is what I have done to correct it.
If you are using muliple SCSI cards, and you are using Adaptec cards, you can go into the SCSISelect utility by typing CTL-A when prompted. Check that the two cards are using different SCSI IDs.
On some Compaq servers you can watch the POST when the server restarts and type the F9 key to take you into the 'ROM-base setup utility' where you will want to choose the 'PCI Devices' menu and look at the IRQs that are assigned. If you aren't using the Integrated Lights Out feature you can reassign your SCSI card one of the IRQs assigned to that ILO controller. This has helped me.
After troubleshooting to make sure that there are no duplicate SCSI IDs being used and checking your cable connections. Try the following.
First, go into the Computer Management utility and check under the Storage, Removable Storage, Physical Location section to see if there are any devices with the red X symbol. If you find any then right click on that device and click Delete. Hopefully all of your tape devices will still be there when you are finished removing the ones with the Xs.
If they won't delete because it reports that the volume is still mounted, or something to that effect, then you will have to uninstall your SCSI devices that the tape drives attach to. Don't reboot until you have removed the disabled devices. Now you can reboot and allow Windows to find them and install them again.
Next, open Arcserve and go the Device page open the Device Group Configuration window and check your tape groups to make sure they are in order. You may want to just remove the devices, delete the groups and start from scratch BUT you may not have to do this.
At this point stop all your engines and restart them. Check the Activity Log to see if you are receiving any of the errors now.
Hopefully this fixed your problem. The other thing that worked for me was to uninstall and reinstall Arcserve 2000 then re-apply the patches.
