'Zones' or containers as they are sometimes called, provide an isolated  environment  for  running applications. Processes running in a zone are prevented from monitoring or interfering with other activity  in  the system. Access to other processes, network interfaces, file systems, devices, and inter-process communication  facilities  are  restricted  to prevent interaction between processes in different zones.

'SMF' defines a programming model for providing persistently running applications called services. The facility also provides the infrastructure in which to run services.

'VLANs' (virtual local area networks) are software defined groups of hosts on a local area network (LAN) that communicate as if they were on the same wire, even though they are physically on different LAN segments throughout a site.

'Subnets' are working schemes that divide a single logical network into smaller physical networks to simplify routing.
