VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is looking for talented software engineers to be key members of a new engineering team.  The role will be to develop and support the customized virtual appliance application utilized by its partners for performing hardware certification with the company’s flagship product ESX Server.  Candidates will work with product and engineering management to help analyze and refine product requirements and propose functional requirements, designs and implementations. The applicant must have a strong understanding of the software development process with an excellent track record in troubleshooting and diagnostics Initial projects will focus on maintaining and providing fixes to the current shipping product and once the team is established, will contribute to the development of new features.

Responsibilities
 Troubleshoot and resolve issues with current application and framework including.
 Isolate problems which involve working across multiple components within the Virtual Appliance and associated tools and framework.
 Develop requirements for and software fixes for future releases
 Communicate effectively with multiple groups in the course of performing the above functions.
 Design and implement new features or enhancements to the existing products.
 Interact and collaborate with a global multi-function team including development, QA, product management to deliver ESX releases.

Requirements
 MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field
 Expertise with installing, administering, troubleshooting, and developing software for the Linux operating system.
 Experience in full software development lifecycle including requirements definition, development,  testing and maintenance.
 Strong development and debugging skills
 The ability to debug C++, JAVA code and other scripting and programming languages.
 Strong written and oral English communication skills.
 Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently and deliver tasks in a timely manner.
 Knowledge of SAN, NAS, iSCSI a definite plus.

QA Engineer

VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is looking for talented software QA engineers to be key members of a new engineering team in Beijing.  The team will be responsible for developing and support the customized virtual appliance application utilized by its partners for performing hardware certification with the company’s flagship product ESX Server.  Initial projects will focus on maintaining and providing fixes to the current shipping product and once the team is established, will contribute to the development of new features.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Work with developers to design test suite and write test plans
• Assist developers in reproducing defects
• Design test cases
• Setup test environments and validate fixes provided for defects
• Perform manual and automated test suites
• Develop/Automate test suites
• Create change requests for product defects , provide necessary diagnostic data as required by product engineers

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years’ experience as a Software QA Engineer
• Fundamental knowledge of SDLC and QA concepts
• Good OS fundamentals skills and administration experience on Linux, Windows and Netware
• Experience in drivers testing
• Hands on experience in Perl/shell is a must
• Knowledge of SAN/NAS/Networking
• Ideal candidate has strong analytical and communication skills
• Must possess excellent problem solving skills and work through problems collaboratively
• Install/Configure test environment
• Strong team player and customer interaction skills
• Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple outstanding tasks

R&D Engineering Manager
Responsibilities:
VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking an R&D Manager to lead a new engineering group focused providing ongoing support for its Hardware Certification Virtual Appliance product.  You will be responsible for managing a team of about 6 development and QA engineers initial focused on assuming responsibility for providing bug fixes and maintenance of the existing product.  Once the team is fully staffed it is expected that the team will assume responsibility for subsets of future enhancements to the core framework.
You will work closely with QA, R&D, Build and other teams, in both Beijing and the United States to ensure a high quality product is delivered to VMware’s hardware partners.
Requirements:
• 7+ years of industry experience in Software Development and Quality Assurance
• 3+ years of leadership and/or management experience
• Capable of organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines and date-driven schedules
• Ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Ability to drive problem-solving strategies for complex problems that involve cross-functional disciplines.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and enthusiasm for effective processes and methodologies that will improve the productivity of the organization.
• Experience managing remote engineering organizations.
• Ability to discuss and contribute to technical design/architecture and development of complex automation systems
• Solid understanding of both Windows and Linux environments
• Strong understanding of product life cycles and experience in shipping at least 1 product from beginning to end while working with remote teams
• Previous experience in developing and testing the quality of complex software systems such as kernels, OS components, drivers, etc. is a plus
• Experience with C/C++ and JAVA.  Experience with Fibre Channel, iSCSI or NAS a plus.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar field
