摘 要:
Business continuance is a hot topic on the minds of most enterprise IT organizations today. Increasing resiliency of key enterprise applications often involves the need to extend the recovery capability of applications to remote data centers. Many different solutions exist to extend the application including such solutions as geo-clustering. However, in all cases the requirement to extend a copy of critical application data persists. Remote data replication solutions commonly include disk array-based technologies that replicate and synchronize an exact copy of an application’s data to a remote disk array. Although data replication can take the form of synchronous or asynchronous replication, for a guaranteed exact copy of the data, synchronous replication is the predominantly used method. Synchronous replication ensures an exact copy of a data set is present at the remote site by locally committing a write I/O from a server only when it has been acknowledged that the I/O was successfully written to the remote array. Network latency is a critical consideration when building synchronous replication solutions as each application write I/O must be committed on the remote disk array prior to a local acknowledgement. This added delay incurred by waiting for the remote acknowledgement can have severe effects on application I/O performance.
