User Experience Design Manager
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Ambassador for user-centered design (UCD) corporate wide. Leads teams of top professionals in well-planned efforts to innovate and improve the overall user experience of products and solutions. Responsible for best practice user experience throughout product lifecycle for multiple products and product lines.
Ensures the following:
- Solid relationships with peer managers.
- User Experience process and deliverables are well-defined for project team.
- User Experience process is well received and integrated in the solution management, product development/quality, and product sales processes.
- Staff retention.
Primary Role:
- Lead and inspire teams of top user experience professionals to design best practice user experiences.
- Define team’s objectives, metrics, and priorities that align with business strategies.
- Ensure substantive user research, excellent design and testing practices, best industry. human-factors principles, comprehensive platform style guides and broad industry experience.
- Lead and engage team in user experience strategy and project planning efforts.
- Manage team’s overall and individual performance.
Secondary Role:
Manage and encourage plans for professional career development and training among team members, including mentoring team members.
Evaluate the work/deliverables and performance of team members, providing timely and useful review feedback.
Communicate effectively with all levels of management and across multidisciplinary teams
Working with related line and project managers, coordinate all user experience work, including usability testing, visual design, gathering user satisfaction data in addition to establishing and communicating metrics for usability with other teams and project managers.
Educate and facilitate the adoption of a user-centered design process and principles company wide
Promote enterprise-wide consistency and quality by collaborating with user experience teams working in other areas and by applying established user interface standards and guidelines.
Qualifications:
-Graduate level training in one or more of the following:
-Human Computer Interaction
-Human Factors
-Cognitive Psychology
-Other related disciplines
-Three or more years of managing team(s) of user interface designers and other user interface professionals
- Eight or more years experience doing UI design for data driven applications, services, and solutions in a high tech company.
Skills:
Experience in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team of user experience design professionals, including managing a User-Centered Design process throughout product lifecycles.
Must have experience in leading teams in the areas of task analyses, field studies, formal UI reviews, usability tests, and surveys.
A passion for advocating the user’s perspective in the design and development process.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Experience with driving the adoption of user profiles, use cases, and scenarios into a development lifecycle.
Experience in the interaction design of web-based business applications and solutions.
Expertise in developing and maintaining UI guidelines for multiple product lines, including definition of corporate wide standards.
Expertise in prototyping methods, including rapid prototyping (HTML editors, graphics programs, etc.).
Experience with Web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, Flex and CSS. Willingness to learn new technologies.
Enterprise and business domain knowledge and experience preferred. |
