Job Summary
Job Title (Storage) Software Engineer for Expert Support
Engineering Team
Brief Posting Descripton

This engineering role is with in the Support Engineering Group. The engineer will resolve complex customer problems relating to the storage subsystems of Red Hat's operating system products. This will include troubleshooting, analysis, tuning, development and debugging any storage or kernel related issue primarily.

The Engineer will work closely with Red Hat's development engineering team and the support Organization. The Engineer will analyze upstream development against customer reported defects (bugs) and develop patches to resolve the issues.

This Engineer will be part of a highly technical global team. The working environment involves a high degree of collaboration and the role has significant scope for personal development within these skill areas.

The Engineer will:
* Develop and recommend corrective workarounds.
* Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures
* Resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative and practical ways.
* Demonstrates considerable judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
* Interacts with senior internal and external personnel (development, upstream community, customers).
* Participate in customer facing activities like customer calls and/or customer visits to present the technical details of a technical support issue.
* Works independently on tasks with minimal guidance on complex issues.


Job Requirements
5 or more years related experience, BS or MS in engineering field.
Excellent understanding of the Linux kernel or/and other UNIX kernels, Virtual Memory, Filesystems, Modules or drivers,
Networking and network filesystems (CIFS, NFS) and protocols.
Good understanding and familiarity of any Cluster technology, Storage SAN or NAS.
Upstream Linux kernel engagement (patches submitted for upstream inclusion) advantageous.
Familiar with other operating systems including Linux, Solaris, AIX, Tru64 and Microsoft Windows desirable.
Good understanding of storage hardware and cluster architectures.
Senior development level experience with C
Exposure to assembly language programming and analysis
Familiarity with standard open source tooling, e.g. git, cvs, gcc, rpm
Experience with patch submission and review workflow
Experience writing scripts using BASH or Python, Perl to troubleshoot and correct Linux issues.
Excellent written communication skills
