Overall Role Purpose:
· Installing, commissioning, managing, tuning, patching, supporting, troubleshooting & performing system administration for LINUX Systems.
· Responsible for, but not limited to, the following areas relating to the day-to-day support of the servers and related infrastructure:
1. Capacity Management
2. Configuration Management
3. Performance Management
4. 24 x 7 Availability Management
5. Systems Support
6. Patch Management & Hardening.
7. Hardware maintenance and Monitoring
8. Technical documentation
9. Asset Management
10. Technology (hardware & software) currency
11. Adherence to Incident, Problem & Change management process
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Technology and Tasks :
· Installing, commissioning, managing, tuning, patching, supporting, troubleshooting & performing system administration for LINUX Systems.
· Ability to perform initial operating system installation & configuration (including server networking & Volume Management).
· Ability to perform System recovery, i.e. rebuild servers including hardware, operating system software and data recovery due to a server failure.
· Responsible for Performance, Capacity & Availability Management.
· Demonstrated ability to tune UNIX system software and make recommendations for performance CPU, Memory & I/O configurations.
· Familiarity with performance monitoring tools such as VMSTAT, SAR, IOSTAT, etc.
· Familiarity with clustering technology and management required.
· Possess appropriate skills in system security, vulnerability remediation, patch management and operating system hardening.
· Troubleshooting skills to effect fast problem resolution.
· ITIL knowledge especially in the areas of Incident Management, Problem Management and Change Management.
· Setup and maintain documentation and standards
· Plan, order, install, test and maintain all equipment and work with vendors & suppliers to resolve problems.
· Knowledgeable in VMWare, SAN environments & backup systems, e.g. VERITAS NetBackup V6.5, VTL (Falconstor), IBM, HDS or EMC SAN storage environments.
· General writing, testing & implementation of Unix Scripting.
· Supporting SSH
· Implement & support clustering

· Synergizes with various product lines (e.g. Database, Applications, Network, Storage, Backup/Restore, Security, Messaging, Network, etc) for project implementation, troubleshooting, communications, efficiency & productivity improvement.
· Provide knowledge transfer and coach new staff members.
· This position requires everyone to be part of an on-call rotation scheme, i.e. serve in a 24x7 on-call rotation. As a team member of Midrange Technology Unit, odd hours may be required on occasions.
· Good fluency in the English language with proficiency in written and verbal English communication skills
· Develops and maintains communications with staff, customer, vendors, and CSC designated account team as appropriate.
Customer:
· Serves as a liaison between Company and Customer, ensuring client satisfaction with company and product and delivery of support services
· Helping ensure Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) levels are met or exceeded.
· Helping ensure all Service Levels (SLA) are met or exceeded.
Business:
· Serves as a contact for vendors of MIDRANGE related application products, ISVs software and services.
· Investigates sources of equipment and services and reviews and renews contracts for system support, services, and products to ensure that products and services are relevant and match company standards and specifications.
· Manage the 3rd party service providers that provide such services.
· Update the Asset Management Configuration Management, Known Error, etc database as needed.
· Help introduces new technology and process improvement strategies, with an understanding of past/present computing environments.
Financial:
· Evaluates Vendor products in terms of company needs to ensure that appropriate and relevant products are obtained while maintaining cost effectiveness and company efficiency.
· Keep track of maintenance contract renewal & expiry dates.
· Prepares and recommends maintenance & refresh budgets for approval.

· Working with the support functions & team to ensure all Service Levels are met or exceeded.
