请问一二关于万能声卡驱动的问题

最近一直在实者为自己的linux配置声卡驱动,照着一些资料作了,可是就事没有成功,真不知道为什么?其他的步骤都可以成功,,就是下面的这一步不能实现

   [root@localhost root]# cd /home/math
[root@localhost math]# cd alsa-utils-0.9.2
[root@localhost alsa-utils-0.9.2]# alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
我不知道上面的错误原应是什么?

用系统自带的社卡检测工具 显示的是:
the snd-intel18x0 could not be loaded

this sound card may not be compatible wirh  RED HAT LINUX
自给的/etc/modules.conf 的 内容是这样的

说alsa是万能的驱动,,为什么自己的不 可以实现?
我的声卡是  intel-18x0  AC'97
