Host localhost not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) 错误

[root@pbs etc]# host localhost
Host localhost not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

我没有自己的dns，用的是isp提供的。
结果是：host www.sohu.com 正常，但是只要是局域网内的机器名字都报错。
哪位仁兄能帮忙分析一下，我很需要解决这个问题。
系统是rhel3.

there is no dns in local ,the only thing you can do is add all  info into /ets/hosts

oh, it doesn't work for me ,
But after I add a line "nameserver 127.0.0.1 search localdomain" in /etc/resolv.conf, I could get a right output with host localhost .
Unfortunetly, host linux2 remains the same.
