大侠帮忙，驱动装不上一直提示有问题

装的RED HAT LINUX 5
笔记本的显卡是nVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS
从nVIDIA网站上下的for linux-32的驱动
驱动是＊＊＊.run的文件
放在/root下直接./***.run运行
出这么个提示，纠结中。。：
You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
       For further details, please see the section INSTALLING THE NVIDIA DRIVER
       in the README available on the Linux driver download page at
       www.nvidia.com.
然后就是出错退出：
Installation has failed.  Please see the file
       '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details.  You may find suggestions
       on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
       driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

求大侠给指导一下。

提示说是在installing之前退出X，ctrl+alt+f1过去，再运行还是这个提示，这是什么意思？
要完全使用文字界面启动吗？可是RH5一启动直接就进X界面了呀。

解决方法：
You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.

这段说是在running一个X server,请退出X后安装
这个退出不是ctrl+alt+f*的切换，那样X端还是在跑着的
设置/etc/inittab文件，将
id:5:initdefault:这段代码的5改成3，然后reboot，重启后进入字符界面没有运行X server，重新安装OK，记得装完再把这段改回来
