bash中wc的指令

不知道有没有人研究过bash中wc的指令
其中
wc中的manual是这样写的
    -c,--bytes
          print the byte counts
    -m--chars
          print the character counts
我在终端输入
cat /etc/manpath.config|wc -c 和
cat /etc/manpath.config|wc -m
着两个结果一模一样

-m      The number of characters in each input file is written to the
             standard output.  If the current locale does not support multi‐
             byte characters, this is equivalent to the -c option.  This will
             cancel out any prior usage of the -c option.

-c      The number of bytes in each input file is written to the standard
             output.  This will cancel out any prior usage of the -m option.

-c :   统计文件中的字节数
-m:    统计文件内容中的字符数，若文件内容都是单字节字符，则等同于-c选项

为什么会出现这种情况，原因：参考资料
所以A-Z a-z 0-9大多数字符都是 (1 byte in size)，因此-c和-m参数使用的结果会一样！lz不妨测试下，建立一个新文件（其中输入中文字符），结果会怎么样？
