看了篇文章 心情不好\r\n\r\n    Gartner的副总裁、知名分析师乔治在Gartner每年一届的“开放源代码峰会”上表示，2009年之后可能就不再会有专为Unix开发的应用软件了。\r\n\r\n　　乔治在一篇题为《规划第三代Linux企业软件》的演讲中说，我预计到2009年将有最后一批专为Unix开发的应用软件问世，此后将不再有专为Unix开发的应用软件问世，对现有软件的升级将会持续一段时间。\r\n\r\n\r\n　　乔治说，Unix操作系统的市场份额和使用将逐步下滑，但这一下滑过程将“有一个长长的尾巴”。他表示，尽管IBM有自己的Unix操作系统 ━━AIX，但它仍然积极地参与了开放源代码社区。他说，IBM介入了Linux开发活动，并在改进这种操作系统。如果Unix是IBM的饭碗，它怎么会这样做呢？\r\n\r\n　　乔治表示，Linux和Unix的差距在不断缩小，对于目前80%的应用软件和环境而言，Linux是“足够”好的。Linux的普及和使用已经经历了三代：第一代是Web服务器和集群系统；第二代是应用和部门服务器；第三代是企业关键任务服务器。未来24个月中针对第三代Linux应用的增强包括优化调度软件、实时的强占和中断处理、高性能文件系统、完整的内核虚拟、内核中集成hypervisor。\r\n\r\n   从大的说，自己是SUN的粉丝，从小里说，SUN关系到自己的饭碗 \r\n\r\n  郁闷

这也不是坏事，应用软件以后都转向linux是发展趋势，对于开发者来说，不用开发那么多版本，一个LINUX版本的应用软件就够了，这样的话可以降低开发成本，对用户也是有利的。对于用户维护者来说，一个系统总比多个系统管理起来简单和方便。\r\n至于solaris的工程师向LINUX系统转移更是很简单的事情，很多命令都是一样的，即使SUN公司自己，也早就退出了X86系列，虽然可以用SOLARIS X86，但更多的应用还是安装LINUX之后才可以跑。\r\nLINUX这几年发展很快，功能越来越完善，对硬件的支持越来越好，安装使用也更简单，随着LINUX的不断升级，和硬件之间的不断磨合，应用的稳定性也在逐渐好转，死机现象大大减少。\r\n以前的多CPU的大型机已经衰败到了尾巴的尽头，取代的是集群，集群大部分都跑LINUX，随着CPU频率的加快和集群节点数量的增多，其运算能力也大大提高了，这也降低了高性能计算的门槛，可以很轻松的实现万亿次的运算能力。\r\n对于中国来说，百万亿次的计算能力硬件上靠AMD或INTEL的CPU，也有说使用龙芯的，不管硬件如何，操作系统还得使用LINUX。

Don\'t jump into the conclusion too soon. In history, most of the people who claim that they could predict the future failed miserably. A lot of people predicted that Unix was going to die soon ten years ago when Linux took on the enterprise computing. But it didn’t happen. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison predicted in the 90s that network PC was going to prevail and invested a lot of money in it. It didn’t happen. He pushed for ASP model in the late 90s and that didn’t happen either. Novell was so popular in the 90’s but it was defeated by Microsoft windows. Sybase was the predominant database in the 90s but lost most of its ground to Oracle. There are so many examples in history which leads me to believe that the only predictable thing in IT industry is the unpredictable. With the way Sun and Solaris is going such as opensource etc, I don’t think Solaris is going to die. But I could be wrong. The only thing you can do to protect yourself is diversification. Don’t hang on one tree. Master a few skills instead of just one. Don’t fell in love with any technology. Fell in love with the dynamic and fast changing nature of the IT industry. Be excited about the fact that you always have something new to learn everyday and you will never get bored. If one day that you started to feel seriously that IT is changing too fast and you can’t keep up with its pace, it is time to quit and do something else.

Sun is commited to improve Solaris X86. Sun also has its own line of X86 hardware with can run both Solaris and Linux. A few days ago, Sun teamed up with Microsoft to run windows on its X86 hardware. It is a dynamic game.

可能吗？solaris 10是目前业界安全评测最高的系统。。。。

我倒是觉得开源后的Solaris会对Linux产生一定的威胁，可能是SUN东山再起的一个契机。
