Failure Entry 1: DEGRADED_DRIVE_CHANNEL-Recovery Failure Type Code: 71
Storage Subsystem: Unnamed
Degraded drive channel: 2
Degraded Drive Channel
What Caused the Problem?
A drive channel status was set to Degraded because of excessive I/O errors or because a technical support representative advised the array's administrator to manually set the drive channel status for diagnostic or other support reasons. It is important to correct this failure as soon as possible. The drives are still operational, but a level of path redundancy has been lost. If the other channel to the drives fails, then the drives themselves could be failed. The Recovery Guru Details area provides specific information you will need as you follow the recovery steps.
Important Notes
•You must contact your technical support representative to correct this failure. DO NOT attempt to fix this problem yourself.
•If a Loss Of Path Redundancy failure is also being reported in the Summary area of the Recovery Guru, you MUST fix this failure first; otherwise, you could lose both paths to the drives.
•DO NOT manually set the drive channel to Optimal until you have consulted with your technical support representative.
Recovery Steps
1 Check the Summary area of the Recovery Guru to see if there is a Loss Of Path Redundancy failure being reported. If this failure is being reported, fix it first before going to step 2.
2 Select the Advanced >> Troubleshooting >> Support Data >> Collect menu option from the Subsystem Management Window (SMW), and take the appropriate steps to save the support data to a .zip file.
3 If the reason for the degraded drive channel in the Recovery Guru Details area is "Manually set", go to step 5.
4 Contact your technical support representative and indicate that a "Degraded Drive Channel" problem is being reported. Send your representative the file you saved in step 2 and wait for further instruction.
5 If after consultation with a technical support representative or the person who manually set the drive channel status to Degraded, you believe the drive channel is operating properly, you may choose to manually set the drive channel status to Optimal.
Select the Advanced >> Troubleshooting >> Drive Channels menu option, then select the degraded drive channel and click the Set Optimal button.
Note: The drive channel status may automatically be reset to Degraded if the controller again determines that the channel is not operating properly.
6 Click the Recheck button to rerun the Recovery Guru. The failure should no longer appear in the Summary area. If the failure appears again, contact your technical support representative.

•If a "Loss of Path Redundancy" problem is also being reported in the Summary area of the Recovery Guru, you MUST fix this failure first; otherwise, you could lose both paths to the drives.
•DO NOT click the Recheck button until you have consulted with your technical support representative.
•Correct this failure as soon as possible. The drives are still operational, but a level of path redundancy may be lost. If the other channel to any of these affected drives fails, the drives themselves could be failed.
