Job Summary
The Red Hat Platform Enablement team is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to our industry-leading technology in the Linux kernel. In this role, you will work with some of the brightest engineers in the open source community to create innovative solutions for the next generation of open source technology. You'll participate in the product release cycle of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) products, as well as the formal requirements and engineering response processes to coordinate open source requirements and expectations. As a Software Engineer, you will also contribute to open source projects while delivering enterprise-ready products based on these projects that are suitable for use by our customers. We'll need you to have an in-depth knowledge of Linux kernel technologies and enjoy solving complex problems with tough constraints.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Work on Linux kernel drivers and the updates
Collaborate with the Quality Engineering team on test creation and execution
Coordinate with Red Hat's partners in a joint effort to facilitate change
Help fix issues identified during functional, non-functional, platform, and acceptance testing
Monitor upstream code changes, and assist in pushing fixes to the product back into the upstream project
Submit patches for bug fixes to the community and review patches from other community members
Assist in new features, including unit and integration tests
Perform driver backports and updates across multiple software releases
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related discipline is preferred
Experience with C, as well as shell scripting, Python, or Perl is preferred
Familiarity with Linux kernel and open source
Experience with Git
Experience with sustaining engineering and open source software
Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work in a globally distributed team
Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks
Experience with ARM or X86 architecture is a plus
Familiarity with virtualization is a plus |
