# change the password of dbsnmp/dbsnmp in 9i

agentctl stop

cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin

grep -i visibleservices snmp_ro.ora
    - snmp.visibleservices = (listener, orcl.home.net)
    - so SERVICE is orcl.home.net

vi snmp_rw.ora to add the following 2 entries
    - no space around =
    - replace SERVICE with the one found in snmp_ro.ora

snmp.connect.SERVICE.name=dbsnmp
snmp.connect.SERVICE.password=newpass

SQL>; alter user dbsnmp identified by newpass;
    - database side

vi $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catsnmp.sql
    - optional step
    - search for "create user DBSNMP identified by DBSNMP"
      and replace the password DBSNMP by newpass

agentctl start

cat snmp_rw.ora
    - the password will become encrypted in 9i as follows
    - snmp.connect.orcl.home.net.encryptedpassword="19146f153beb35a1"

chmod 700 snmp_rw.ora
    - if password is not encrypted (earlier version of oracle)

sshd

if anything goes wrong:

agentctl stop

SQL>; alter user dbsnmp identified by dbsnmp;

rm snmp_ro.ora and snmp_rw.ora

and reverse the change made in catsnmp.sql

agentctl start
