java 1.4.0.0
Posted by Hamdani, Fatima on 11/30/2005 6:21:00 AM
I managed to do it. I updated to ML05, and then to ML07. The question
remains though - why does it have to be this way? Thanks to all of you
for your suggestions and help..

Wait to install the ML.
If he can install the jdk 1.4.0 and he updates to ML, AIX should take
care
to install ad updated version.
So the work around is to install the JDK, the websm and then update all
together.
I check if websm needs the 1.4.0... And why.

May ask you what product are you trying to install?
I thinks it is checking in a shell (or something similar) the lslpp.
If you have something that is working on 1.4.0.0, it is supposed to work
also on 1.4.2 (since it is just a ML of the JDK, and not a major
release).
In this case, like Oracle does in some cases, the only solution is to
modify
the installation script (I suppose you have an RPM, a bff or something
similar).
In alternative ask IBM support if they have the beta 1.4.0. It is no
longer
available on the web.
Let us know.

Trying to install the 1.4.2 - it still asks for 1.4.0.0 as requisite

1.4.0.0 seems to be a very old beta.
If you check in the previous link I sent, you find also it under one
link.
The product became 1.4.1 32 bit
http://www-128.ibm.com/developer ... x/outofservice.html
If you read the FAQ from IBM
" All SDK 1.4.x installp images (VRMF numbers 1.4.0.*, 1.4.1.*, and
1.4.2.*)
install in the same directories, /usr/java14 for 32-bit code and
/usr/java14_64 for 64-bit code. This is because AIX Java 1.4 is the
product
and 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 are maintenance levels (1.4.2 being the latest and
last
maintenance level) of the product. "
You have to install the 1.4.2

Maybe this can help make things more clear.
MISSING REQUISITES: The following filesets are required by one or more
of
the selected filesets listed above. They are not currently installed and
could not be found on the installation media.
Java14.sdk 1.4.0.0 # Base Level Fileset
Thanks for the help
