Data Center Manager/Technical Services Manager
A leading e-commerce company is now seeking an experienced manager to join its Data Center Operations team in Beijing/China to server in the role of Data Center Manager/Technical Services Manager.
The primary duties/responsibilities of the position include:
o Recruit, train, mentor, lead and manage a team of highly skilled IT professionals serving in the role of Data Center Technicians. Data Center Technicians provide 24/7 support for multiple facilities and employing the following skill sets; server hardware management, network management, systems troubleshooting across Linux platforms, and building operations.
o Act as an IT Project Manager tasked with launching our world class enterprise data centers; while also working to manage projects in line with the day to day operations of established data centers.
o Development of documentation and procedures concerning all aspects of Data Center Operations including, but not limited to; server, operating system, and network hardware installations and management, network cabling installation, and disaster recovery.
A Technical Services Manager is expected to be a ‘working technical manager’, thus previous data center experience is highly preferred as is a background in systems and/or network engineering. Managers at this level are expected to roll up their sleeves and lead from the front as this is a highly active role.
Previous IT supervisory or managerial experience, as is proficiency with UNIX, Linux, the Cisco IOS, and the Microsoft Office Suite are required.
Familiarity with enterprise backup software, HVAC equipment, building management software, and critical power distribution is a plus.

Data Center Technician
In the hiring of a Data Centre Technician, our company, a market leader in the world of e-commerce, is looking for an individual who has experience across the following four core competencies
Networking:
• experience with Cisco’s Cat & Native IOS
• switch configuration & troubleshooting
• copper cable termination
• understanding of fiber optic cabling
• experience with Cisco 6500, 3700 & 7600 Series equipment
Systems:
• general knowledge of Linux/Unix with Troubleshooting Experience
• operational knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2003 Server & Windows XP Pro
• base operating system install
• system administration
• scripting; Perl, Python, Bash
Computer/Server Hardware:
• HP/Compaq Proliant Servers – possess or obtain within three months of hire, an APS certification on the Proliant products
• knowledge of the x86 platform & SAN architecture
HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, & Air-Conditioning):
• power distribution units (PDUs) & uninterrupted power supplies (UPS)
• fire suppression systems
• diesel generators
• air handlers & chillers
Candidates need not be experts in all of the above, but the ideal candidate would have experience with at least two of the above & show the willingness & aptitude to learn what is required to become adequately skilled in the other competencies.
A qualified candidate would be described as an individual who is a team player, self-motivated in addition to looking for a challenge. Our Data Centre environment is fast paced & as seen in the core competencies, extremely diverse. Strong communications skills are a must; in a given shift the Data Centre Technician is the primary point of contact for both internal customers (Network/System Engineers & Administrators, Software /Database Engineers & Systems/Networking Operations Centre) & external customers (Vendors & Contractors).
The position also has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
The responsibilities of the Data Centre Technician extend beyond day to day data centre operations. Additional responsibilities include; process improvements, peer training, & projects worked in conjunction with other groups within our company.
Our Data Centers are 24x7 environments & are staffed with data centre technicians around the clock who are required to work twelve hour shifts that either start or end on a weekend & rotate between three & four day work weeks. The work week is based on a 40 hours a week.
Data Centre Technicians are also required to wear a pager for communication, information, emergency & on-call situations.
