Job Description
The solutions validation specialist will be responsible for providing deep technical expertise on our current, past and next generation storage software and hardware products. You are expected to have extensive knowledge of, and experience with, a range of technologies in the areas of SAN, NAS, CAS and storage software including replication, information management and archiving and a deep technical background and solid emphasis on EMC and non-EMC backup and recovery products, solutions, methodologies and proven storage/backup & recovery architectural skills and experience.
You are a technical leader who is able to understand the solutions architected by EMC to the extent that you can provide risk identification and mitigation based on limited information surrounding a proposed solution and the customer environment it must operate within. You are able to guide technical sales during the presales portion of the sales cycle, leverage your expertise and your team to ensure potential risks in pre-sales solutions are communicated, understood, resolved and negated before a solution is finalized and presented to a customer.
Key Responsibilities:
-Work closely with EMC pre-sales teams involved in the design of solutions involving DataDomain, NetWorker, Avamar and other information management products with the goal of providing expert level technical guidance resulting in positive improvements to the design, environment, functionality and customer satisfaction with the solution.
-Interact with subject matter experts, team members, engineering, qa, product management and project management in discovering, communicating and resolving preventable risks in presales designs and driving core product improvements.
Qualifications and requirements:
-BS or equivalent with at least 7 years of experience in both hardware and software solution architecture, design and implementation. 10+ years experience with open systems integration where the most recent experience demonstrates a strong background in SAN and Backup/Recovery Hardware and software technologies.
-Possesses strong, current knowledge of the storage industry, particularly SAN, NAS and CAS, Backup, Recover and Archive, EMC’s solution offering, value add and vision
-Demonstrated strength and expertise with consultative solutions architecture skills in the areas of:
*Business continuance, high availability and Disaster Recovery.
*Backup and restore infrastructures in complex storage environments
*Exchange and or Lotus Notes Messaging solutions
*Database solutions involving SQL or Oracle
-Solid knowledge in platform design, device drivers, and Linux OS kernel and High availability solutions
-Experience managing and implementing Exchange and/or SQL or equivalent
-Experience managing and implementing solutions on Unix, Linux and Windows server platforms or equivalent
-Thorough understanding of LAN, WAN and SAN infrastructure, performance, and communication protocols including but not limited to TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, iSCSI and related security processes and products
-Working experience with EMC Backup Solutions
-Working Experience with DataDomain VTL appliances
-Strong understanding of competitive and complimentary products
-Clear understanding of Backup and Restore infrastructure and corresponding Industry and EMC best-practices
-Advanced technical problem solving skills
-Excellent and proven ability to communicate and clearly relay technical knowledge to both technical and non-technical people, written and verbally, in English to also include communication of business impact of technology issues and advantages from a business operations perspective to both internal and external resources.
